Open Loop Solar Hot Water Heating

Open-loop active systems use pumps to circulate potable household water through the collectors. This design is efficient and lowers operating costs but is not appropriate if water is hard or acidic because scale and corrosion will gradually reduce the effectiveness of the system.  These systems can be prone to freezing and unless specially programmed controllers or drain back systems are used an open-loop active cannot be used where outside temperatures fall below freezing. 

Usually an open-loop system is best used for seasonal dwellings.
