Heat Pipe Technology
Heat pipes are used to transmit heat in a variety of applications. Applications as varied as laptop computers, air conditioning and evacuated solar hot water tubes. StructureThe hollow space with the heat pipe is a partial vacuum with small quantity of water with additives to prevent freezing. The partial vacuum allows the water to boil as low as 30oC (86oF). When the temperature within the heat pipe reaches this boiling point it vapourizes. The vapour fills the tube and rises to the top where the heat is transferred to into the recirculating system. As the vapour transfers and loses its heat to the hot water system the vapour condenses and runs down for another heat transfer cycle within the heat pipe.
