Aeration

Our atmosphere is comprised of 20% oxygen. When the atmosphere comes in contact with water containing utilizable components, oxidation occurs. While not as potent oxidizers an oxidizer as others our air comes for free.

Aeration is then the process of exposing water to the atmosphere. This can be accomplished as simply as by exposing the water surface to the atmosphere or can be accelerated by bubbling air through water or by venturi injection of air into the water column.

Simple aeration by bubbling air through the water column can usually get rid of a small amount of sulphide as long as no iron is present. To accomplish this you will need an air pump and vent tank.
